From groundbreaking healthcare partnerships to new cultural destinations, we want to share some exciting news heard while visiting one of our favorite Northeast Arkansas towns—Blytheville in Mississippi County.
Late last month, the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine at Arkansas State University and the Mississippi County Hospital System announced that they are entering a partnership to discuss potential collaborative projects aimed at supporting healthcare in the Mississippi County region, including expanding healthcare services and providing hands-on training for student physicians. Big news!
That’s not all we heard: The National Cold War Center in Blytheville partnered with the Smithsonian Institution’s Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington D.C. to create a new museum about the Cold War. This isn’t exactly new info, but it’s incredibly exciting! The National Cold War Center, a federally designated museum, is being developed on the campus of the former Blytheville Air Force Base. The museum, set to open in late 2027, will serve as the United States’ official museum of the Cold War.

When you visit Blytheville, take a few extra minutes to explore. Main Street is home to one of our favorite spots—Blytheville Book Company. We also recommend visiting the Delta Gateway Museum and at least drive by to check out the 1930s-era Historic Greyhound Bus Station on US 61. It’s a visitor’s center now. There’s also: the Ritz Civic Center, a restored opera house on Main Street and the Arkansas Welcome Center on I-55.
